Spring will be here in just a few weeks. Now is the time to get your unit ready to start running the air conditioner after months of cranking the heat. Our technicians at Jones Heating and Cooling offer these tips to prepare your HVAC system for the upcoming warm weather months.
Change your air filter
Keeping the HVAC system’s air filter clean is essential for efficient and effective operation. Dirty air filters will make the air conditioning work harder than it needs to and cause excess wear and energy costs. Dirty air filters also make dirty indoor air quality.
Clean around the unit
Outside, make sure your unit isn’t covered by any overgrown grass or plants. Be sure to remove any debris that may have accumulated on or around the unit during the winter months. Inside, be sure to remove any items that may have been placed near the air handler. This will improve airflow and prevent problems, such as overheating. To be sure each room is receiving even cooling by checking to see that all vents are open and clear of any obstructions.
Check the thermostat
Be sure to switch the thermostat off of heating and into cooling mode. You may also need to update the thermostats scheduling and temperature settings.
Schedule a Spring Tune-Up
Scheduling a tune-up will ensure that your system will be all set for the warmer weather. This will give you peace of mind, knowing your system is in good working order. If anything is lacking in your system, early detection could save you a lot of money in the future or if your system needs to be replaced, this is a good way to get some information on the variety of systems and pricing available to you.
